Amorphous Silica

Amorphous silica is another type of silica which has the same chemical formula as crystalline silica.  Amorphous silica does not cause silicosis because it is not crystalline in nature, however, it has been linked to other kinds of lung problems.  In addition, crystals may be formed when sufficient heat and/or pressure is applied.  As a result, workers may unknowingly be exposed to crystalline silica.
